Before the arrival of the blessed month of Ramadan, the Prophet of the two worlds, peace and blessings be upon him, delivered a sermon:
"O people! The month of blessings, mercy, and forgiveness of sins is approaching. Embrace its blessings, for it is the best and most superior of all months in the sight of Allah. Its days surpass all other days, its nights surpass all other nights, and its hours are the best and most elevated. It is the month in which Allah, the Generous, has invited you as His guests. Who could be a better host than Allah? Surely, none! Allah has bestowed upon you such honor in this month that even your breathing while fasting is considered glorification, and your sleeping is counted as worship. Your deeds are accepted, and the supplications are answered with certainty. Therefore, with pure intentions and a repentant heart, present yourselves in the court of Allah.
Remember the hunger and thirst of this month to remind yourselves of the hunger and thirst of the Day of Judgment. Strengthen your piety, give charity to the poor and needy, honor your elders, show mercy to the young, and be kind to your relatives. Safeguard your tongues from speaking ill, protect your eyes from what is unlawful to see, and shield your ears from what is forbidden to hear.
O people! Your necks are burdened with sins; seek forgiveness from Allah and strive to relieve yourselves of this burden. Your backs are weighted down with sins; strive to lighten them through prolonged prostrations. For Allah, the Most Generous, has sworn by His honor that He will not reject the supplications of those who prostrate, perform prayers, and remain steadfast in this month, nor will He subject them to punishment.
O people! Whoever provides iftar to a fasting person in this month, it is as if he has freed a slave, and he who fulfills the needs of a needy person, Allah will prohibit the fire of Hell upon him. Rectify your manners so that you may easily pass over the Sirat bridge on the Day of Judgment.
And O people! Know that the gates of Paradise are opened in Ramadan, so pray to Allah that they may never be closed upon you. The gates of Hell are closed in this month, so pray that they may never be opened for you. And Shatan is chained in this month, so pray that he may never have power over you. Ameen! "
